Stooges tenían algunos puntos obvios de influencia: la arrogancia de los primeros Rolling Stones, la vision de los Troggs, la burla fuzztone de un millar de bandas de garaje, y el amor a la experimentacion de la Velvet Underground. Pero en realidad no suenan como ninguno de ellos. Ron Asheton, Scott Asheton, Dave Alexander y el hombre entonces conocido como Iggy Stooge, eran capaces de hacer algo más sofisticado y mas furioso a la vez. Son tan brutales y concisos que rayan la ingenuidad, pero con una fuerza que inspira temor. Y la voz de Iggy suena con una gran cantidad de arrogancia y confusión. "1969", "I Wanna Be Your Dog", "Real Cool Time", "No Fun" y otros clásicos están en este registro. The Stooges lograron la difícil hazaña de sonar por delante de su tiempo.
