'Destroyer' es uno de los álbumes más experimentales de Kiss, pero también uno de los más interesantes. Hay un uso extensivo de efectos de sonido, un coro de niños ('Great Expectations') y una balada cargada de orquesta ('Beth'). Pero hay un montón de heavy, como el demoníaco 'God of Thunder' y los himnos 'Flaming Youth', 'Shout It Out Loud', 'King of the Night Time World' y 'Detroit Rock City'. La balada 'Beth' fue un éxito sorpresa. También se incluye una canción que Nirvana interpretaría más tarde, 'Do You Love Me?'.
